So here's
the scoop.
I'm 28. Or
at least I was the last time I updated this page. I'm a webhead
here in London, England. I just moved to London a few months
ago. It's pretty exciting! Oh, and I freely admit to being a geek.
I was born
in Houston, Texas, but my real hometown is Edmonton, Alberta.
Lucky me has three citizenships-- Canadian, American, and British.
My
favorite authors include Michael Ondaatje, Alice Munro, Erica
Jong, Isabel Allende, Ernest Hemingway and many more. I tend to
read about a novel a week.
I
have wayyyy too much education-- a BA in History and an MA in
journalism. More about that stuff in my resume...
I'm
tall, and I used to have tons of long blonde wavy hair. For 10
years the hair was my trademark. But last fall I got a little
bit disturbed when I realized that my highschool photos looked
pretty much like my current self. So, I got my hair chopped to
my shoulders and dyed red. And I have bangs for the first time
in years.
I
do web stuff during the day and supposedly work on writing some
creative fiction by night. But what I really do is read novels
and spend too much time swanning about at galleries with my beloved
and going to gigs.
My
ideal man used to be Elvis Costello. Or at least the Elvis
of a few years back.. Think about it: he's witty, snarky, too
smart for his own good, and has a palapable sense of style. .I
also admit to crushes on Conan O'Brian, Chris Noth and Elliot
Smith.
Fortunately, I've actually met a boy I like better than all of
those guys combined, Elvis included. Lucky me!
My
favorite color is green. Or silver. Or lilac, for that matter.
I
used to drive a 1998 2-door "Vogue Silver Metallic"
Honda Civic called Celeste. I cared about Celeste way too much.
I gave her up when I moved to London. But I still drive her in
my dreams.
I'm
an Aquarius, which means I'm individualistic, talkative
and insane.
My
politics tip the scale towards the left.
I'm
an agnostic.
If
I could eat only two things for the rest of my life, I'd choose
sushi and ice-cream. And if I could find a way to get paid for
reading novels, traveling, and socializing, I'd be set.
Morrissey
from The Smiths was my idol, love and god when I was a teenager.
And I'm still a music geek-- my fave purchase of the last year
has been my stereo. That, and some plane tickets to England.
I think that "The Album of 1998" was the Beastie Boys'
Hello Nasty.
As for 1999, let's go with Central Reservation,
by Beth Orton, if only for Track 2, "The Sweetest Decline".
Hmmmm... and far as 2000 goes, I'm choosing Furnace Room
Lullaby from Neko Case and Her Boyfriends (though it may
have actually come out in 99-- pardon me!) and Cat Power's The
Covers Album. Runner up is Elliot Smith's Figure
Eight....
I
haven't gotten too many albums yet that are copyrighted 2001,
so instead I'm going to vote right now for Kepler's
Fuck, Fight, Fail (sorry mom, that *was* a swear,
but it's in context, OK?) cuz it's beautiful beautiful slo-core,
*and* all that transcendental drumming is courtesy of my fave
Scrabble opponent, Mike Sheridan.
My
two favorite movies from 1999 were American Movie and Run
Lola Run. The best film that I saw in the year 2000 is a wonderful
Japanese import called After Life...the only other film
I liked a lot last year was Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon,
though,
I also, guiltily enjoyed the Charlie's Angels remake. Every
cool chick I know has loved it too though, so I don't feel too
dorky.
As
for 2001, so far my vote goes to You Can Count On Me, or
In the Mood for Love-- both very understated and beautiful.
My latest entry into this list has to be Together, which
was hilarious and touching and featured Abba's SOS on the soundtrack.
My
favourite films of all time include All About Eve, Casablanca,
and Pretty in Pink.
I
can touch my nose with my tongue.
enough
already??
